Other ingredients

A few classic ingredients spring to mind that will really complement pepperoni on a pizza. For best results, use one or two extra ingredients - any more than that may overload the pizza and take away from the pepperoni.

• Fresh Tomato. Dice into rough chunks and scatter over the pizza. Use good quality, vine ripened tomatoes and you will really notice the difference.
• Onion. Brown onions, thinly sliced and scattered over the pizza as the bottom layer add an interesting texture and flavour.
• Mushroom. Your favorite tasty mushroom can either be sliced thin and scattered over the pizza raw, or diced and browned in a saucepan in advance for a more rounded and sweet flavor.

Constructing the pizza

• Pour a thin layer of pizza sauce over the base and spread evenly. Leaving a few patches without sauce will help the base to stay nice and dry. As an alternative to a tomato based pizza sauce, you can use your favorite BBQ sauce.
• Add a thin layer of grated mozzarella on top of the sauce, just to help the ingredients stick.
• Add any extra ingredients you are using, and then a layer of peperoni slices.
• Finish up with another scattering of cheese, and then transfer your pizza to a preheated pizza stone and bake until golden brown! For a little extra crunch on top, you can finish the pizza under a griller for 1-2 minutes.
