When you are trying to learn beekeeping basics it can be a little frustrating.   Beekeeping (like many other hobbies and businesses) seems to have it's own language and learning it can sometimes be frustrating.  Click the link above to get a full overview of what I like to call beespeak, but in the meantime here a few other things you should know.

There are two basic ways you can keep bees.

#1 For observation. Bees are fascinating critters and and very self supporting.  Once you have an established bee colony they can pretty much take care of themselves.  So if this is your aim, then be sure to get an observation beehive.  They are kind of like giant ant farms where you can see the bees between two panes of glass.   Generally you keep the hive inside and the bees leave your house through a tube.

#2. For honey. If you are keeping bees for honey you will need a lot more equipment.  The two biggest expenses that you will have will be a Langstroth beehive and a beekeepers suit.  The first will allow you to harvest the honey while not damaging the bees and the second will help to keep you from being stung.

One of my favorite cities in the whole of France is the Catalan citadel of Perpignan. "Catalan, isn't that Spanish" I hear you cry. Well yes it is. This city is very close to Spain and used to be part of the Spanish empire back in the day. Perpignan has held on to it's roots, traditions and, indeed, its language. All sign posting is in both French and Catalan and most inhabitants can speak both.

This makes for a very interesting mix of people. Despite the city in many ways feeling very French the locals themselves definitely look Spanish. Both in their features and their dress sense you can feel the Latin passion simmering underneath. If I had one complaint about them it would be their "too cool for school" attitude when they're walking around the streets, but once you get chatting they're really open and friendly.

The new trend these days for baby's is organic cloth diapers. More people are enjoying the natural fibers of these organic cloth diapers. They are soft and very comfortable for the baby. They are more affordable than disposable diapers. Another big reason why more parents are opting for cloth diapers is because they are friendly to the environment.
