Rear projection TV’s were a great idea, at the time they were the best way of getting a large television picture in to a small space. The arrival of low cost digital projectors and more importantly the Plasma TV heralded the end of the rear projection TV. LCD television technology really hammered the final nail in to the coffin of the rear projection TV, ultra slim screens at relatively very little cost. Was it right though? This untimely ending for rear projection TV’s perhaps they did have something to offer. Either way there fate seems to have been decided with only two of the main electronics manufacturers produce rear projection TV’s which should tell you something, perhaps it really is the end of this lumbering technology.
