Magnesium chloride: Magnesium chloride salt is an exothermic compound so is the next step up from regular old sodium chloride (rock salt). It is used mainly by businesses and councils and comes in crystal form. However because magnesium chloride reacts by drawing moisture from the air, it has to be kept in special container so it doesn’t react when not in use. Magnesium chloride can be used before a cold weather snap or when there is ice on the ground and in both cases is equally effective.

Potassium acetate: Potassium acetate is one of the most expensive deicing products available; however it is also one of the most eco-friendly and least corrosive. Due to its lack of corrosive properties it is often used by airports so as not to damage a planes component.
