Disadvantages of the CAHSEE

All graduating high school students in the state of California are required to pass the California high school exit exam. This exam has many detractors since it has been instituted. The following are three of the biggest arguments against this exam.

One of the biggest arguments against the CAHSEE is that it is biased against non-native English speaking students. Since half of the test is composed of English multiple-choice questions and a thesis this can often prove difficult for students who speak English as a second language. Writing a paper in English can often be harder than speaking the language.

Another drawback of the test is that students often have different learning methods. The test may be biased towards well structured students who are able to review material on a regular basis and fully comprehend the material. Other students who have difficulty studying may fail the test multiple times. Trying to cram for this type of test is often difficult because the student must have a good understanding of the basic principles which underlie.

Finally, many people believe that the test increases dropout rates in high school. Students may take the test early and realize they are lacking in many areas. This may cause the students to give up prematurely and decide they will not be able to pass the test. This may result in the students dropping out of high school altogether in order to go to work.

There are a number of other arguments against the CAHSEE, but these are the three biggest. Since the test appears to increase dropouts, cater to certain students, and puts non-native English speaking students at a disadvantage many people are angered by this exit exam. As more and more data emerges since the test has been instituted there will be a much greater grasp on how well the exam fares.

Developing Cellphone Etiquette

People should have good etiquette when using their cellphones so that you do not disturb the people around them. There are some places where you are not permitted to carry your phone such as churches, theaters and meetings. You should leave it in the car when attending such or if you decide to carry it, switch it off or put in on vibration alert. If it is not an emergency you should not answer your phone but if you have to don't just rudely walk out but instead excuse yourself and walk out slowly. In case your cellphone rings while you are driving do not be in a hurry to pick it up instead find a place where you can pull over.

When people are using their cellphones while walking they need to be highly alert. This will help you not to bump into others or objects which may end up harming you. If you can, avoid this at all costs and find a safe place where you can sit or stand when using your cellphone. Never cross the road while using cellphones as you concentrate more on the phone rather than the place you are going which many lead to unpleasant accidents. When you are on your cellphone you should use your inner voice.

Cellphones have different ring tones and you should know yours so that you do not have to keep checking whether your phone is ringing or ignore it if it is ringing. If you are in the middle of people whom you are conversing with keep the calls short so that you do not appear rude. If you have to argue with a person you can hold the conversation at a later time and place where you can express your emotions. If you try calling a person three times and they do not pick up, wait for them to call you back do not keep on disturbing them as they may be busy.

The Young And Old Are Finding Jobs Tough to Find

The United States economy is bad in this nation today. No one needs to tell you that jobs are very hard to come by. This means individuals of all ages are on the lookout for any kind of work and it is those who are very young or older probably have the least options.

Employers seem to want to hire people who are in their mid 20' and 30's in the hopes that whoever they hire will stay and be productive for many years. Younger teens are a risky hire because of their lack of experience and they won't be around for long if they do pan out. Alternatively, older workers generally are not going to work for many years because they will want to retire.

So it seems that these two groups are having the worst luck in this recession at finding employment but the reality is that it is bad for everyone in between as well. In this bad job market, it could be a good suggestion to explore all the options you may have and that includes looking for ways to make money from home. Now could be the perfect time to be artistic and perhaps begin your individual business.

When the chips are down as they are now, it is during those times that some people are forced to break out of their normal routines and thought processes and try something new. Not having the ability to find a "real" job can turn out to be a motivator to start a business on your own.  The Web affords so many alternatives now that weren't accessible just 10 or 15 years ago. Whether it be some type of on-line enterprise or a home business where you'll be able to advertise on-line, the Web provides you the possibility to join with folks all over the world.

Even teenagers can use the Internet to make cash and the way most of them do it is by participating in surveys for money. They won't make loads doing this, but they can at least earn something which is better than sitting around playing video games all day. Teenagers with the entrepreneurial spirit also can learn to make websites and make money from them.

It may seem incredible, but did you know that over 75% of married men have forgotten their wedding anniversary at least once during their married life. Contrast this with women, who only 25% have ever forgotten, and you will see why men get such a bad rap sometimes. Remembering an anniversary is not just a token gesture, and it’s not just a tradition that is to be blindly followed.

The celebration of marriage is one of the most spiritual types of celebrations you can have. Many people use this time of year to reaffirm their wedding vows to each other; it is a reminder of our promise as a couple to stay together whatever may come. So make sure that this year, you take the time to recognise the importance of your anniversary with each other. Even if the gesture is just as simple as giving a happy anniversary card.

What Happens At Boot Camps For Troubled Teens

Once a teen with discipline problems arrives at a teen boarding school or boot camp they will have a very rude awakening, but something they have needed for a while. No more will they be able to talk back or walk away. Instead they will be doing push-ups or running to be punished. It can be amazing just how quickly that teen will change their tone. Once they understand that they won't be able to say no to their leaders, they often make significant changes. It helps to have people that won't back down to them.

A drill instructor who is two inches from their face and yelling at the top of their lungs may be what that teen needs. The fear they will experience when they realize that mommy or daddy is not coming to save them, well it can be overwhelming but a life changing thing too.

High Fiber Asparagus

Green asparagus for sale in New York City
Image via Wikipedia

In season asparagus -high in fiber and folate and low in calories - is perfect in pastas, soups and salads.  I'm a huge fan of asparagus -even my seven year old son likes it and that's no small feat!  After I found out just how healthy it is, I'm even a bigger fan.

Asparagus is the ultimate detox veggie making it a perfect weight loss food.  It's got 3 grams of fiber which cleanses your digestive system, 290 milligrams of potassium per cup and no sodium.  One cup only has 40 calories making it the perfect filling low calorie food.  Asparagus has tons of folate in it which is powerful in reducing inflammation and the risk of heart disease, and in preventing birth defects.  Asparagus is also loaded with vitamin K which helps prevent osteoporosis.

My favorite way to eat asparagus is to slather them in olive oil, sprinkle with salt and roast them on the grill. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon and some red pepper flakes for a tasty treat!  Bon Apetite!

The Philosophy of Advaita Vedanta

Out of the dark almost unknowable history of man, somewhere in India, a long, long time ago came the old Indian religious texts. They are older than any other books on this earth. And they are still as relevant as ever.

Why is this? It’s because passed down through the millennia came the nondual tradition, which is also known as the ancient Indian Advaita Vedanta philosophy. Somehow this rare corner of Indian thought survived the arguments of the Hindu dvaitists and in the 20th century, was revived with a fury by the most remarkable sage of recent memory: Ramana Maharshi. He was no preacher. Everyone merely found their way to him, drawn in by his love and perfect peace.

Because of the fact that he lived only less than a century ago, we have video and pictures and recordings of his words. He didn’t speak for a long time but eventually graced his devotees by answering their spiritual questions of him. And since then, the Advaita Vedanta has seen somewhat of a resurgence and passage on into the West.
