Characteristics of Good Plastic Pet Pens

Every pet owner knows that having a pet entails ensuring the pet is well catered especially in terms of food and shelter. Moreover, one has to ensure that the pet is well catered for in terms of security. The plastic pet pen helps eliminate two of these needs i.e. the need for shelter and

security. Pets are naturally playful. However, without proper boundaries this playfulness could become a nuisance to others. Having a well built plastic pen will ensure that the pet is well secured and cannot be a nuisance to anyone.

There are several characteristics that determine a good plastic pen. A great pen should be sturdy enough to secure a pet within its borders. It’s often common to find pet’s easily conquering the pen’s wall and wandering out into often dangerous situations, especially if the pen is located outside the house. The pens should also have anchors that ensure the pen does not topple over due to inner movement caused by the pet. Thus, having a plastic pet pen ensures the pet does not easily free themselves from its borders guaranteeing the pet’s safety.

Another characteristic of a plastic pen that one should consider when selecting any pen is its size. The size ratio of any pen to its pet is important in many regards. It plays an important part in influencing the pet’s mood. Moreover, it also determines the size of the space with which the pet can reasonably move around. Buying a pet pen that is small in size in relation to its pet may limit this space and dampen the pet’s overall mood.

Lastly, when selecting any plastic pet pen, one has to consider its construction. This is especially important depending on the type of pet pen. For instance, outdoor pet pens should ideally have a stronger construction than indoor pet pens. This is because the outdoor pens are more exposed to the elements than the indoor variety. Thus, one has to select a pet pen constructed especially for the use intended.

Taking Care of a Teacup Chihuahua

Throughout the years, Chihuahuas have become one of the popular breeds of dogs that are great to have as companions. Their physical characteristics set them apart from any other breeds. They have protruding eyes and large ears that are erect. This breed is known to be the

smallest in the world.

Teacup Chihuahuas are named such because they are the smallest among the class of Chihuahuas. The average weight of this breed is about 3-6 pounds if fully grown. No matter how much these dogs weigh, they remain to be small. With this feature, many people prefer to have them as pets because of their portability. However, due to their small physique, a lot of care and attention are needed to keep these dogs healthy and lively.

A teacup Chihuahua weighs less than 5 pounds. Seems to be so charming and cute at sight, but they are delicate. You need to take care of the health condition of this tiny animal. Never do overfeeding. Feed them at the right time and right amount of food that their body can tolerate. Your little one cannot store glucose very long and they are prone to hypoglycemia, a condition in which sugar level drops fast. In that case, you can give your Chihuahua a taste of honey being rubbed on their lips.

Always make them secure with a blanket because teacups hate cold weather. They are not allowed to stay outdoors for long hours since they tend to get cold easily. They love daytime walks, but make sure they are comforted with a sweater.  It is not also recommended to bath your Chihuahua daily, especially if it is shorthaired. The best thing for you to do is clean your little one with a damp cloth. This will help in preventing the drying of their skin.

Because of Chihuahua’s protruding eyes, irritations are common to occur. For irritated eyes, it is best to seek the help of a veterinarian.  Some owners drop a small amount of baby oil to lessen the irritation. Before doing so, it is safer if you ask a prescription from a professional regarding this health issue.

You can find long lists of breeders online. Not only pitbull kennels, but also you can come across with chihuahua raisers. Owning a Chihuahua that is commonly referred as teacup is very exciting. However, being a responsible owner is not just all about fun and play. You need to secure the needs of this tiny dog. If you want to make sure that you will be bringing a happy and healthy pet, only deal with legitimate Chihuahua breeders.

How to insulate a dog kennel

Sweety is Bad to the Bone, isn't She?

If you are intending to use your dog kennel during winter months then it is vital that you have an insulated dog house.  For dogs to remain comfortable in outdoor dog kennels during cold weather they need to be draft proof, waterproof and warm.   Though heated dog beds can be used to keep your pet snug it is also important to properly insulate.

Buy some insulation felt and plywood and cut both to the correct sizes to fit each wall, the floor and the roof.  After tacking the felt to all surfaces, cover them in the plywood and nail the sheets down firmly so that it is not possible for the dog to scratch them off.  Squeeze some decorators caulk into all the joins to ensure that that no drafts can get in.  For more information on how to insulate a dog kennel use a dog kennel guide.

Clipping a dog’s nails

Nearly all dogs need to have their nails clipped from time to time.  The grow too long if daily walking doesn't wear them down enough.  If you don't then they will grow too long and start to cut into their feet and make walking painful and may even end up with an expensive trip to the vets.  However,  this is a simple procedure that can easily be carried out at home when doing your regular dog grooming routine.

Buy a set of specialist dog nail clippers at any pet store that sells dog supplies and then use the Pet Grooming Guide for advice on how to carry out the procedure safely.  Remember that your pet may be nervous at first and so you will need to be very calming and maybe only clip a few nails at a time to start with.

Dog Allergies & The Border Collie

IMG_0649

Antihistamine for Dogs may be needed today, said John. But the Border Collie is often considered one of the most brightest breeds of dog. Some believe that herding dogs originate in England and Scotland. Of all herding dogs, the Border Collie is reliable and always eager to work. They enjoy pleasing their master and are unusually well-suited to living on farms with someone devoted to working with them. Affectionate and faithful, the Border Collie is not appropriate for households with little children. They need a full-time handler and open fields. But Carl was not interested, when he asked Jenny about the dog. She wanted a cat with white fur, much like the doctor's cat. I do hope you are able to find what you are looking for before the rains come. After all, it is best for the cat to live in an area that they like.

Dog Tricks

Paul O'Grady, the British comedian and television presenter, is renowned for his love of dogs and regularly features them on his daily programme. One super dog that brought the house down was a cute little female Jack Russell who could dance, do acrobatic tricks and walk all over his master... literally. The little dog was obviously in prime condition and what we were about to see could never have been achieved by a fat dog.

Yvo Antoni and PrimaDonna made their TV debut in October 2009 and fans of Paul O'Grady's programme went wild about the pair. They watched Yvo get into all sorts of crazy positions in order for PrimaDonna to do her tricks. While Yvo lay down and raised his feet in the air his little dog stood on one of his upturned feet, then on the other, then she stood up on her back legs, balancing on the soles of Yvo's shoes.

When dog and master took a bow together, the audience went wild and wanted more. The duo did an encore, with a further song and dance act.

'How do you get your dog to do all this?' asked Paul.

'With lots of treats,' responded Yvo.

'And how long has it taken you to train her?'

'Two and a half years,' came the response.

'D'you think you could get her to do the same for me?' Paul was clearly very excited at the prospect.

And sure enough, after the briefest of tutoring, the little star weaved herself through the presenter's legs, then jumped up on his back and repeated a couple of the tricks she had just performed with her master. Everyone who watched the performance was amazed.

'Fantastic... wonderful,' enthused Paul. 'What a glorious little dog.'

Kennel Flooring for the Chewer

So, your dog chews up everything you put inside his kennel?  That can be a real problem, especially if your dog loves to chew. Our Retriever actually chewed the sides off her dog kennel when she was younger, even though she was well exercised when we put her in there and she didn't stay there for long. It was just natural instinct, if anything sticks out at all, she chews on it.

One idea for flooring that works well for the dog that chews linoleum, plastic, and wood is to first lay down a layer of pea gravel and then cover it with plastic decking.  It looks nice, and fits together really well almost like real flooring. It is really easy to clean, and porous enough for any water to seep through easily and soak into the gravel.  And best of all, there are no pieces sticking up that a dog can grab hold of and start to chew.

It is fairly easy to come by this type of plastic decking, and it is relatively cheap to purchase as well.  You can buy it from online stores, or it is usually found in most of the usual hardware stores.

Dog Kennel Roofing

Oftentimes not a lot of thought goes into the type of dog kennel roofing you should have on your dog kennel.  While it may not be the most important part of a kennel, there are some things that you should keep in mind regarding the roof, when you choose your kennel and it is as important a part of the kennel as the kennel flooring.

Don’t have too big overhang on the kennel.  Wasps and bees are attracted to buiding their nests under overhangs.   Don't tempt them.  Limit the size of the overhang on your dog's kennel roof.

Don't have a flat roof, especially if you live in an area where there's a lot of rain or snow.  It needs to be able to drain off the roof.

Consider insulating the 'ceiling' especially if your area has extreme temperatures, either extreme heat or extreme cold.  Insulating can help make the kennel bearable in these situations.

Consider a hinged room. That makes it so easy to clean the kennel.

Remember white or light colored paint reflects heat and sunlight, so choose a light colored room if you live in a warm climated area.  On the other hand, if you live in a cold area you should consider painting the roof a dark color, or choose dark colored plastic roofing.

Dog Collars Are More Than A Place To Hang Dog Tags

Dog collars are required for dogs in most towns and cities because you have to have them on a leash, but there are a few different types of dog collar, a few that most people haven't even thought of as actually existing. Others like the dog shock collar are ones that people consider inhumane, but if they thought about the true purpose they would quickly understand that it is more help than harm, and is actually not painful to the animal at all. Instead of being a painful jolt, the dog shock collars merely give the animal a wake up call and let them know that they are in the wrong. It feels no different than a bite from an alpha dog in the pack if they were still wild animals. It may seem cruel, but it is actually in the dogs nature to deal with sensations such as this, even if they were the alpha dog of the pack.

If you'd like to know more about the types of dog collars that are available on the market today, visit DogTipsDaily.com.

Modular Dog Kennel

A modular dog kennel can be re-arranged in different ways, to accommodate different needs you and your pets may have. They are often made out of metal, often with panels that can be added on to increase the size of the kennel or change the shape, or partitions that can be added or taken away.

These type of kennels are very useful if you have more than one dog sharing a living area as you can give each of them a place 'of their own' they can retreat to.  They are also particularly helpful when a female dog is about to whelp.  They provide privacy and a place where she can deliver and keep her pups, and other sections where she can get away from them at times to stretch her legs. They are also helpful when teaching the very young pups to move away from their living and sleeping space to eliminate which is a very important lesson for them as it makes it much easier to housetrain the puppies when they're older.

Another reason for investing in a modular kennel is so you can keep pace with your dog's growth.  Puppies are small but they grow, and some dogs can grow quite big. Rather than investing in a big sized kennel right off the bat, you can instead start off small then add to the kennel as the pup grows.  Dogs like their pens and kennels to be cozy and to offer security. Too big can cause them to become insecure. So, start off small and add to it as needed.
