Common and Unusual Driveway Paving Options

Some materials that are used for new driveways are quite common - seemingly everyone has them. For instance, asphalt driveway paving is quite a popular option for two main reasons. First, it's what everyone gets, so peer pressure and the belief that it's 'normal' drives many homeowners to select this material when it's time to replace or renew their driveway. The second major reason that asphalt paving is popular has

to do with its price. Asphalt is just very cheap to install, though there are some ongoing costs in terms of maintenance down the line. This low price attracts many budget conscious homeowners.

However, some homeowners don't opt with the standard choice when it comes to paving a new driveway. For instance, one relatively rare but incredibly beautiful choice for a driveway is sandstone paving. Sandstone is a natural stone that forms due to natural processes - it is thus quarried from mines and cut and transported to the location where it's needed. Sandstone, being natural stone, is of course incredibly strong and will withstand all kinds of natural interference. Sandstone comes in a variety of colors and can be formed into whatever shapes you need for your project. Its strength, coupled with its versatility, make it a very popular construction material - except when it comes to homeowner driveways.

The beauty of the material notwithstanding, sandstone just isn't a popular sight covering the front of homes - have you ever seen sandstone, or any other natural stone in a driveway for that matter? Of course, this means that sandstone is incredibly high in price. In the end, this is usually what makes certain materials more unusual than others - price. In theory, most people would prefer sandstone and other natural stone driveways to boring options like asphalt and concrete, but as long as the material remains expensive, the standard choices will always win out.
