Some Great Instrumental Music Artists

There are tons and tons of great instrumental artists out there, but only a few have stood out amongst the crowd. The following is only a handful of artists, a bit of background on each, and some of their more well known instrumental music. Enjoy!

Sir James Galway is the world's greatest flutist or flautist, whichever is better for you! Of course, this is my opinion, but I would have a hard time believing anyone would argue with me on this point. Sir James Galway, yes he is a real knight, is the reason I began playing the flute and daydreamed about playing beautiful solos in front of thousands. He is one of the first flutists to have an international career as a solo artist and my hero when it comes to the flute. If you've ever watched Lord of the Rings, you've heard Sir James Galway! He has a beautiful & emotion-filled sound. You should also listen to his Clair De Lune rendition; it is beautiful melody.

This next guy I’ve only heard of since last year around Christmas time. I was online searching for instrumental Christmas music and I ran across his version of "Carol of the Bells". I loved it so much I decided to look up more of his music. His name is George Winston; an American born pianist. He plays "New Age", Contemporary, & New Orleans style R&B piano. He refers to his music as "folk" piano which is a style he made himself back in 1971. To get a taste of his massive skills, check out his album "Remembrance: A Memorial Benefit." This album was created to help families affected by the 911 attacks and all the funds are donated. Talk about two birds with one stone. My favorite song on the album is titled "Lament", but I can’t go without mentioning "Remembrance".

I could not write this particular article without including Yanni. Many would argue that there are more skilled and aged instrumental music artists, but I would have to disagree. I grew up in a house where music was always playing and at the age of 12 yrs old that's when I decided he was my favorite. And surprisingly enough, after all these years he still is my favorite when it comes to instrumental piano music. His music is full of emotion and some of his instrumentals bring me near tears still to this day. "Reflections Of Passion" and "One Man´s Dream" are some of my favorites.

Sir James Galway, George Winston, and my favorite Yanni all leap up at me through the vast world of instrumental music. They will always be a source of inspiration in my life. I hope you find an artist to do the same for you. Until next time…
