Oftentimes not a lot of thought goes into the type of dog kennel roofing you should have on your dog kennel.  While it may not be the most important part of a kennel, there are some things that you should keep in mind regarding the roof, when you choose your kennel and it is as important a part of the kennel as the kennel flooring.

Don’t have too big overhang on the kennel.  Wasps and bees are attracted to buiding their nests under overhangs.   Don't tempt them.  Limit the size of the overhang on your dog's kennel roof.

Don't have a flat roof, especially if you live in an area where there's a lot of rain or snow.  It needs to be able to drain off the roof.

Consider insulating the 'ceiling' especially if your area has extreme temperatures, either extreme heat or extreme cold.  Insulating can help make the kennel bearable in these situations.

Consider a hinged room. That makes it so easy to clean the kennel.

Remember white or light colored paint reflects heat and sunlight, so choose a light colored room if you live in a warm climated area.  On the other hand, if you live in a cold area you should consider painting the roof a dark color, or choose dark colored plastic roofing.
