The first thing to consider is how much you want to spend on your sinks. The most important factor in pricing these products is the material they are made of. For instance a marble sink will cost a great deal but a porcelain design is more for the budget conscious. There are items made of several other types of stone, metals like brass, stainless steel and even cast iron, and of course porcelain, the most used material of all. Brand and style will also have a lot to do with the price.

The next thing to consider is size and style. You can get double, vessel, undermount sinks and several other styles from which you can choose. Unless you are willing to put a good deal of money into your kitchen sink you should consider using either porcelain or stainless steel drop sinks. Drop sinks are the most common variety, sunken into the counter and come in both single and double basin varieties.

These two varieties of sinks are also the easiest to find. These two materials have been commonly used in the Western Hemisphere for about a century and most homes have one or the other somewhere in the house. Of the two porcelain is the easiest to keep clean and sanitary. Stainless steel sinks however are must less likely to get cracks and chips and will probably last longer. Porcelain tends to yellow over time and has been known to hold onto stains.

Kitchen Sink Materials

Kitchen sinks come in many different designs and materials such as porcelain, acrylic, marble, and stainless steel. Choose the style that fits your kitchen best. Coordinate the designs with your counter tops.

Stainless steel is the most common choice for a kitchen sink and faucet. That is because they come in all different price ranges, are easily installed, and the upkeep on them is easy.

Sinks that look the best polished are made of porcelain. They sparkle and look very clear when cleaned. Porcelain can chip and stain if they aren't taken care of properly.

Like porcelain the acrylic sinks look good polished but are less likely to stain and discoloration.

Marble and granite kitchen sinks are durable, don't scratch easily, and are very visual appealing. They can be expensive though.
