LED TV Looks Set to Grow

In 2009 Samsung Electronics sold 2.6 million LED High Definition Televisions, this is over 25% higher than the target Samsung had set at the beginning of the year of 2 million units. These are impressive figures driven by the consumer’s desire for this impressive new breed of TV on the back of a successful advertising campaign.

LED TVs are a new type of LCD television that utilizes LED backlight technology, formerly with conventional LCD TVs the light was provided by cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs). LEDs have benefits over CCFL lighting, which result in improved colors, better contrast ratios, slimmer TV designs and improved power consumption.

Samsung have produced three ranges of LED TVs, the Samsung LED TV series 6, 7 and 8 series. These series includes TVs of sizes ranging from 32 to 55 inches and a range of features to suit all requirements including internet integration.

There is no doubt that the popularity of LED is set to further rise this year. Samsung intend to stay ahead of the game and cement their position as the industry’s leading manufacturer of LCD TVs by expanding the LED TV series range. With the expanding range of available screen sizes and features Samsung aims to increase the LED TV sales by 4 times in the next year. An ambitious target now that rival television manufacturers are looking for a share of the LED TV market which now looks set to replace the CCFL LCD as the leader in the Full HD TV market.

With the emergence of new other new technologies such as OLED TV, 3DTV and 3D gaming, the next few years look set to produce exciting times in the world of high definition viewing with Samsung determined to lead the way. As with LED TV if the product is good consumers will buy because appetite for new technology is bigger than ever.
