Maybe a disco lamp shade is their thing

There are no special lamp shades for teens but I suppose there are shades that your teenager will like or put up with and ones that they won't.

Decorating teen bedrooms can be fun or it can be a challenge (not to mention the challenge it is after you get them finished to avoid the room getting further "decorated" with dirty laundry and the dishes from the snacks they take to their room etc, but I digress).

If you want your teenager to be happy with their room they need to like the decor otherwise you'll get no cooperation at all. So they basically need to choose their own stuff with a bit of a helping hand or a few guidelines.

Let them browse around online and at local lighting stores so that you get an idea of what they would like and then make a joint decision based on their likes and your budget.  Maybe they will choose something sensible when it comes to light but teens invariably choose something impractical - like girls will have fairy lights around their bed and guys some flashing neon monstrosity. Just make sure that you also buy a desk lamp along with their choice of lamp shades so they can get their homework done.
