Wooden Kitchen Worktops
Wooden kitchen worktops are one of the most popular surfaces in modern kitchens. Like all choices of worktop, they have pros and cons. Before deciding to purchae a wooden worktop is important to weigh both the positive and negative elements against your own personal preferences.
The pros: Wood is an environmentally friendly material which is naturally hygienic (it contains anti-bacterial agents). It is affordable and, depending on your choice of timber (be it beech, walnut or oak), the worktops are available in a range of colours and natural patterns.
The cons: Wooden worktops can scratch and dent quite easily. The surface will also burn if hot pans are placed on it. Although these imperfections can be removed by sanding, the wood surface does require regular maintenance to keep it looking good. If it gets wet for an extended period of time (for example the worktop around a sink), the wood can become discolored.
