Video Converter File Formats
If you've been wondering how to use AVS video converter, then you're not alone. This guide to video formats should help you find your way through the alphabet soup of file extensions. If you want to play video files on your computer, choose AVI, MPEG, MOV, WMA, or RM. AVI is standard in most video cameras. MPEG is a good universal format. MOV is the proprietary format used by Apple QuickTime, so you'll need to have QuickTime installed on your computer. WMA is MOV's counterpart on the Windows side, and is compatible with Windows Media Player. RM stands for Real Media, and requires you to have RealPlayer installed on your computer.
For uploading to the internet, choose FLV, WMV, or RM. FLV is the preferred format for video sharing sites like YouTube and is integrated with all popular web browers, so it's pretty universal. WMV and RM require proprietary player software but will work on your personal websites if you prefer them.
To convert a video for uploading to a mobile device, such as a phone or personal desk assistant, choose the MP4 or 3GP format.
